The 1Man 1House Housing Project is currently at the planning phase by Nashville Properties. Construction has not kicked off, but gears are in motion. The 1Man 1House initiative focuses on easy, affordable housing across Lagos, Abuja, and Enugu. And they are not stopping at just one house type. Be assured there will be one to three-bedroom flats, three to four-bedroom terrace duplexes, and four-bedroom detached duplexes smartly designed. Each unit shall have off-street parking and shall be constructed with sustainable living in mind by ensuring the dwellings have energy-efficient systems for lighting, ventilation, and water use, including recycling.

Instead of taking the entire responsibility for the project, Nashville Properties is outsourcing the construction to competent road and building contractors. The various contractors would be reassigned based on their delivery ability. That way, Nashville can focus on the important stuff: things like design, project management, and selling the finished homes to buyers.

Speaking of buyers, interest was made. Also, some individuals and organizations showed that they were ready to roll up their sleeves and help with both construction and roadwork. A promising sign showing that people believe in the need to support a housing project which could alleviate the housing deficit challenges with the motive of providing affordable housing. Nonetheless, even with enthusiasm, Nashville Properties has not procured to date the funding needed to move the process along. However, they aren’t backing down, and they are not in a rush while making sure they do find the right investors who will see the project come true.

The idea is simple: affordable homeownership for working Nigerians. It is not about some fancy concept or the need to reinvent the wheel. Nashville Properties is passionate about the real problem—the housing crisis in Nigeria’s largest cities—by envisioning high-density, sustainable housing. Though the 1Man 1House Housing Project is currently far from full commencement, it is, so far, on the right track. Nashville Properties has been able to show further drive toward this project, but for actualizing, it calls for greater partnerships and financial support.
